Mixing & Mastering Tip #194 ·

Why short reverbs matter more than big reverbs in a pro mix

Nobody talks about short reverbs. YouTube tutorials are all about massive verbs. Socials? Same thing, endless cathedral vibes.

But here’s the truth: short reverbs are the secret sauce. And if you’re not using them right, you’re missing what separates the amateurs from the real deal.

A short reverb on the master

For example, during the mastering of “444” by Xina Mora, I used a filtered ambience reverb ON THE MASTER to “darken” the overall feel of the song, while adding a techno-bunker glue effect to the whole track.

What matters is how you use them, where you use them and, most importantly, why they matter so much.
