Making music in Ableton with AI prompts: the Claude Ableton MCP

So today, I’ve got something wild to share.

I’ve found a new MCP (Model Context Protocol) that connects Claude’s AI with Ableton, and yes, you guessed it: it lets you create music directly through prompts.

If you don’t know it, Claude is the same kind of thing as ChatGPT.

But you can link a DAW through the MCP, which allows the language model to connect directly to your software and make decisions from there, such as creating MIDI clips, selecting samples or choosing synth presets. Wild, right?

Every single week there’s something new popping up. It’s becoming difficult to keep up with the pace these AI tools are moving at.

Obviously, all of this is still very new and raw, and it may feel like playing with toys, but it is exciting and frightening at the same time.

There’s a whole playground opening right in front of us. Whether for good or bad, only time will tell.
